About the JBPMA
The Japan Bulk Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association (JBPMA) conducts research and studies on various legal issues relevant to drug substances, which is the material required for manufacturing drugs. We strive to establish a pharmaceutical quality system (PQS) for drug substances by conducting research and studies which embraces GMP to ensure the effectiveness, safety and quality of drug substances. Our aim is to contribute towards supporting health and promoting the well-being of people.
What is a drug substance?
A drug substance is an ingredient which enhances the effectiveness of a drug. It is also called an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). Drugs are composed of several APIs. The ingredients are described on the packaging of drugs available over-the-counter. Those listed here are APIs.
